I officially beat the clock and got my Spring 2023 issue live!  But, since many of you will not read this until tomorrow, it will then be Summer.  So, this is the Spring-Summer 2023 issue.

I hope everyone is doing well and that you are excited as I am about the upcoming summer months.  For me, I’ve replaced my running sneakers for now with my golf shoes and walk whenever the course allows (usually 5-6 miles). It doesn’t mean I’ve stopped running but not at the pace I had been doing.

You may have also noticed that the name of this has changed from BDSC Oral Health Briefing to BDSC Briefing.  More on that inside.  2023 has been a great year so far for BDSC with new clients and exciting and innovative new projects.  And the relationships with current clients could not be better.

Enjoy the briefing and please reach out to me with any questions or if there is any assistance or services that I can provide to you. BDSC Briefing: Spring-Summer 2023.

How time sure does fly – I am amazed that it is December already as well as eight months since my last briefing.  I hope this communication continues to find everyone doing well and that you spent the summer and fall months in good health and enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.

I had all good intentions of making Version 6 a Summer 2022 briefing, but between lots of client work, business travel, spending time with my granddaughter Emmie (who turned one in August), and playing some (bad) golf, this has become the (early) Winter 2023 issue. I hope this communication continues to find you doing well. I also hope that, like me, you have emerged from COVID with both renewed energy for and a changed perspective of what priorities we have in life. What the COVID years, the situation in the Ukraine, and the birth of my 1st granddaughter have taught me, is that life really can change in the blink of an eye – no one is invincible, and change cannot be avoided. Change, whether good or bad, is inevitable and often there is little that you can do to control it. However, how you approach and accept change is what matters most.

This month’s briefing takes a slightly different format that the previous versions. Click here to download the full document: BDSC Member Oral Health Briefing - Spring 2022.

I hope this communication continues to find you doing well and you and yours have remained in good health.

I’m sure it does not come as a surprise to many of you that we are seeing the COVID variant omicron become so widespread. A year later however, I hope that lessons learned from the first wave of COVID along with vaccines being widely available, will be produce much better outcomes for all.

Looking at the dental industry however, utilization at the dental office has already dipped and I believe it will continue to do so. For my Winter 2022 Briefing, I want to share with you a Case Study that was just completed. It focuses on the importance of oral health at home and how one employer used an oral health kit to not only motivate employees, but to also address the unmet dental needs of their employees during the pandemic. I also firmly believe that Teledentistry (virtual and mobile care) will be the largest growth segment in the dental industry in 2022. My client, Virtual Dental Care (https://get.teledentix.com), will be launching a nationwide program with Humana on 1/1/2022; a regional pilot with Cigna later in Q1 2022, and programs for multiple other payers that are currently in the discussion and/or agreement phase. Also being launched are many community based programs with State Department of Health organizations and many Payer Foundations. Let me know if any of these areas are of interest to you as well.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support of and trust in “BDSC” during 2021. I look forward to creating much success for you in 2022. Wishing everyone a very Happy and Healthy Holiday Season and All The Best in 2022.

I hope this communication continues to find you doing well and you and yours have remained in good health.

I last communicated to you in March 2021 when all things COVID-19 were beginning to improve. A vaccine was publicly available, restaurants and other businesses were opening, and even dentists were seeing volume moving in the positive direction. Unfortunately, new variants emerged, and we have not yet been able to put this pandemic behind us. The ADA’s Health Policy Institute issued a report for the week ending September 13th and the data shows that patient visits have leveled off at roughly the same place as April 2021. The results from April 12th showed that 41.5% of dentists indicated that patient volume was lower than usual and, on September 13th, that number was 37.3%.
